	The ICCT report 'Global transportation energy and climate roadmap' evaluates the historical and potential impact of transportation policies on worldwide oil consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Policies adopted and formally announced since 2000 will have dramatic effects: reductions of 14 percent in global oil consumption and 7 percent in global economy-wide GHG emissions below the IEA's projected 2030 levels. Spreading advanced regulatory standards and cost-effective technologies throughout major markets, coupled with shifts to low-carbon modes, could more than double those reductions, stabilizing global transportation emissions by 2020.

	The friendly competition between Denmark and The Netherlands about the title ‘Best Cycling Country of the World’ doesn’t stop these countries to exchange and share experiences and to learn from each other. Dutch cycling expert Tom Godefrooij contributed on 1 October 2012 to the Danish conference on ‘Congestion Reduction and Modernising of Infrastructure’. He talked about how the combination of cycling and public transport is being fostered in The Netherlands to improve door-to-door connectivity of the Dutch railway system.

	Cycling is so common in the Netherlands that a Dutchman finds it hard to believe that it could ever be considered uncommon in other countries. In Greece the bicycle share shows a steep rise. For Dutch standards however, the proper infrastructure for cyclists is lacking. Cyclists have to mingle with the motorized traffic, driving at higher speeds. This unsafe and unattractive environment is can be quite demotivating. The City of Athens is looking for ways to improve cycling. The Royal Dutch Embassy was happy to assist the City in this by sponsoring a Dutch speaker to give a presentation during the Week of Mobility.

	Cycling Is A City Changer: Insight Into The World Urban Forum 25-09-2012
	(From: Andre Dzikus, SLoCaT) One billion people live on less than one dollar a day, yet their demand for mobility is growing. ECF’s Secretary General, Bernhard Ensink reflects on a recent trip to Naples, where he took part in UN Habitat’s World Urban Forum. My eyes were opened on a recent trip to Naples in Italy. I was taking part in the sixth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF), and I was once again reminded just how quickly our planet is ‘urbanising’. Perhaps I should start by recalling the words of Joan Clos, the inspiring leader and executive Director of UN Habitat. “At the beginning of the 19th century, only 2% of the world’s population was urban. By the beginning of the 20th century, the percentage had increased to 10. As, you all know, the world’s population living in urban areas reached 50% during the first decade of the 21st century,” he explained in an opening speech. “The fastest rates of urbanization are in Africa and Asia, the two continents where the majority of least developed countries are also concentrated.”

This forum, sponsored by NDRC/GEF/World Bank, was held for the third time in China; this year the forum’s venue was in Jiaozuo in de province of Henan. It is part of GEF’s training programme for comprehensive urban transport development planning.
