Cyprus' sustainable urban mobility

During the SUMP (Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning) conference, cycling experts Mr. Ruben Loendersloot and Mr. Pascal van den Noort, gave a presentation on cycling on behalf of the Dutch Cycling Embassy.

The SUMP conference, that took place on 18 and 19 May on Cyprus is the central European conference on sustainable urban mobility planning. It is the flagship of the European Commission's Platform on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans.
The key message: Also in Cyprus the bicycle can play a role in creating sustainable mobility. Not only the hardware (the material /physical necessities for cycling), but also the software (the human side of mobility) and orgware (the cooperation process needed between all the actors) are important. The audience responded enthusiastically towards the Dutch experience regarding cycling.
After the conference both cycling experts hopped on their rental bikes and joined the ‘Ride of Silence’. With this ride the cyclists that were killed in accidents with motor vehicles are being commemorated.
