Velo-city 2019 Conference in Dublin
The Duth Cycling Embassy at the first official day of the 2019 Velo-City Conference
This week, the Dutch Cycling Embassy are leading a delegation to Dublin, Ireland for the 2019 Velo-City Conference, the world’s largest international cycling conference.
The official program got started on Tuesday morning, with an opening ceremony led by Dublin City Councillor Mary Fitzpatrick. Shortly after, incoming Director Lucas Harms cut the ribbon on the Dutch Cycling Pavilion, a stunning showcase of 17 member organizations in the main exhibition hall.
Later that morning, Lucas led a parallel session entitled “When One in Four is Not Enough”. A series of PechaKucha talks from a variety of Dutch experts were presented, each focusing on a different angle of “Tour de Force”, the Netherlands’ national cycling agenda that aims to increase kilometres cycled in the Netherlands by 20% in 2027.
Throughout the course of the day, radio host Geert Kloppenburg interviewed a number of international cycling experts at the Dutch Cycling Pavilion, including the Deputy Mayor of Paris, Christophe Najdovski. After the conference, the resulting recordings will be edited, and distributed as a podcast via our social media channels in the coming weeks.
The busy day concluded with drinks and networking at the Pavilion, generously provided by “Tour de Force” organizers. From there, everyone went their separate ways, hoping to rest up for another day of action on Wednesday. If you happen to be in Dublin this week, please do stop by the Convention Centre Hall and say “hello”!
