Cycling Festival Europe is launched!

With Love from Connect and the Dutch Cycling Embassy in Delft

“We love cycling”. With this declaration of love to the bicycle, the Netherlands, the world’s number one cycling country, launched the Cycling Festival Europe on Valentine’s Day.

The festival will take place from 14 April until 30 June 2016 in many EU countries and beyond. On Valentine’s Day we – the Dutch Embassies who are organising the festival – showed Europe how much the Dutch love cycling. Cycling is our way of life. We just love it! Valentine’s Day is therefore the perfect occasion to express our appreciation for our beloved mode of transportation.

Please see all the photos of Dutch Embassy staff on their bicycles in almost all capital cities in Europe on our website.

Cycling Festival Europe: 14 April – 30 June
The photo shoot on Valentine’s Day is just one of many activities to promote Cycling Festival Europe. With this festival the Dutch will show how fun, efficient and healthy cycling is as a daily mode of transportation in cities, for recreational purposes or for commuting to work and school.

During the Dutch presidency of the EU council, the aim of this festival is to improve the image of cycling and to increase the number of kilometers cycled in European capital cities. Many activities will be organised or sponsored by Dutch Embassies in cooperation with local stakeholders. The goal is to get as many people as possible on their bicycle and to generate ideas to integrate cycling into urban mobility.

Our vision is “Cycling is for everyone”. Our goal is “Europe: Let’s go cycling!”

The festival website provides an overview of the cycling activities related to the cycling festival. The festival also aims to connect European cities through cycling, and to connect stakeholders with each other to form a community of best practice. Contact the Embassy in your country if you want to participate and share your ideas about best practices for the integration of cycling in urban mobility.
